Wrocław City Funds Four Student Projects
2025-05-26Mateusz Lickindorf, a fifth-year medical student at Wroclaw Medical University (UMW), has been awarded in the Young Talents competition for his achievements in entrepreneurship. The awards gala took place on May 19 in the historic Aula Leopoldina. Alongside Mateusz, four other UMW students and PhD candidates received nominations.
The Young Talents competition honors outstanding students and doctoral candidates from Lower Silesian universities for accomplishments in science, the arts, sports, innovation, entrepreneurship, or community service. It is organized by the Lower Silesian Capital Club in partnership with regional universities.
Mateusz was recognized for leading Oncosort, a startup project that supports oncologists in making evidence-based decisions when applying costly, reimbursed drug therapies. The solution, already selected by the prestigious EIT Jumpstarter accelerator, aims to expand to various medical fields.
Mateusz’s interests span AI in medicine and computational neuroscience. He has interned with biomedical startups and studied data science at TU Berlin. His accolades include a sustainability scholarship from the City of Wroclaw and a bronze medal at the Polish Academic Chess Championships.

- Karolina Tądel (Innovation): PhD student working on AI-supported diagnostics of neonatal sepsis; winner of the 2025 Startup-Med competition.
- Melania Czapla (Social Impact): Medical student recognized for reproductive health advocacy and anti-stigma campaigns on HIV/AIDS.
- Franciszek Kędzierski (Community Engagement): Dietetics graduate student and active volunteer, leading health education events and WOŚP initiatives.
- Inga Cesarz (Arts): First-year medical student and accomplished ballet dancer, multiple international competition winner.
- Dorota Bęben (Science): Pharmacy graduate and PhD student focused on translational research in cancer therapies; award-winning hackathon participant.
