International training, fellowships and career development opportunities for early-career researchers
2026-07-01Doctoral researchers and prospective PhD students conducting basic biomedical research are invited to apply for the prestigious Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) PhD Fellowships. The programme supports outstanding young scientists pursuing ambitious research projects at leading institutions worldwide, helping them develop their scientific careers in an international research environment.
The fellowship is initially awarded for two years, with the possibility of extension for up to 3.5 years. It provides a competitive monthly stipend, additional financial support for research-related expenses, travel grants for scientific conferences, and, where applicable, family allowances. Fellows also become part of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds international network and gain access to exclusive scientific meetings and professional development opportunities.
The programme is open to applicants undertaking experimental projects in basic biomedical research. Eligible candidates include European citizens conducting research in Europe or abroad, as well as non-European citizens carrying out their PhD research at a European institution.
The next application deadline is 1 October 2026.
