Adult ADHD: A New Tool to Improve Diagnosis
2026-01-19TOP PICK 2025 is more than a snapshot of the most important trends in modern medicine. It is also a platform where the voices of early-career researchers are heard clearly and meaningfully. This year, one of the publications selected for the prestigious list in Wroclaw Medical University scientific papers Advances in Clinical and Experimental Medicine is an article authored by Maria Jędrzejczyk, MSc in Nursing, a PhD candidate at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Wroclaw Medical University.
Her study, Analysis of changes in mental health, cognitive function and self-care behaviors in patients with heart failure: A prospective cohort study, looks beyond standard cardiological indicators to focus on what patients experience in their everyday lives. Together with an international research team, the author shows that difficulties with memory, concentration, mood, or self-care may develop regardless of seemingly stable clinical parameters and yet they can profoundly affect how the disease progresses and how effective treatment ultimately is.
The publication reflects a growing shift toward truly patient-centered care, where biological data are considered alongside cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors. It also underscores the crucial role of nursing and interdisciplinary collaboration in the long-term care of people living with heart failure—care that extends well beyond hospital walls and into daily routines, decisions, and coping strategies.
Being included in TOP PICK 2025 highlights not only the scientific and clinical importance of this work, but also the promise of young researchers associated with Wroclaw Medical University. Importantly, the study’s findings have also been translated into a popular science article available online, helping bring complex research closer to patients, caregivers, and the wider public—and showing how academic insight can illuminate real human challenges.
