Łukasz Martowski, MPharm, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Wroclaw Medical University, was the winner of the 22nd edition of the “Wrocław Magnolia” competition. He was awarded for his master’s thesis on improving the effectiveness of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) treatment using ibrutinib.
The research, conducted under the supervision of Dr Igor Mucha from the Department of Basic Chemical Sciences, focused on the use of alternative methods of drug amorphization. This process can enhance the solubility of the active substance, improve its bioavailability, and, consequently, increase its therapeutic effectiveness.
“One of the greatest challenges of modern pharmacotherapy is to increase the selectivity of drugs while reducing their toxicity. The amorphization of ibrutinib offers enormous potential in this field,” emphasizes Łukasz Martowski.
The award-winning work aligns with the objectives of the competition organized by the Wroclaw Academic Center, which promotes innovative diploma projects that can have a tangible impact on improving the quality of life for Wroclaw residents, including in the healthcare sector.
The award ceremony was attended by, among others, Dr Piotr Świątek, Prof. at WMU – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University Coordinator of the competition, and the thesis supervisor, Dr Igor Mucha.
Dr Igor Mucha accepted the distinction on behalf of Łukasz Martowski and himself.
