Recent breakthroughs such as AlphaFold, RoseTTAFold, and ESMFold have transformed structural bioinformatics by enabling protein structure prediction on an unprecedented scale. At the same time, protein language models are becoming increasingly important, allowing researchers not only to predict protein structures but also to generate informative protein representations for downstream analyses.
During the webinar, participants will:
- learn about practical applications of the ESM family of models (ESM-2, ESM-3, ESM-C, and ESMFold),
- explore the ESM API for protein structure prediction,
- discover how to generate protein representations for further computational analyses.
The webinar is intended for biologists, bioinformaticians, and anyone interested in applying artificial intelligence to protein research. A basic knowledge of Python is the only prerequisite.
This webinar serves as an introduction to a comprehensive two-day training course on modern computational methods for predicting protein structure, dynamics, and function.
Speaker
Dr Eng. Paweł Szczerbiak is a bioinformatician specializing in protein structure and function prediction and protein representations. Before transitioning to bioinformatics in 2019, he conducted research in physics, focusing on semiconductor lasers, dark matter, and supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics.
He currently works at the Sano – Centre for Computational Personalized Medicine and the Faculty of Computer Science at AGH University of Krakow, where he teaches artificial intelligence, differential equations, and large-scale computing. He is the lead author of publications in Nature Communications, a speaker at numerous international conferences, and the principal investigator of several research projects.
